Introducing the Jumbie Jam C-20 lead / tenor steel pan

From the manufacturers of the extremely popular Jumbie Jam series in the USA, the C-20 lead / tenor pan combines advanced building technology with handcrafted tradition. The result is a consistent, stable instrument with incredible tone. Suitable for music making at all levels, this pan can be used by beginners, Jumbie Jam graduates or as a practice or backup pan for professional players.

The C-20 has a matt black surface which provides a striking aesthetic whilst also making it easy to play in bright lighting conditions with its non-glare characteristics. The pan has a silver skirt, and is supplied with a black powder coated Z-style stand which is fully adjustable from 30cm to 99cm, as well as a pair of black anodized mallets.

The C-20 has a chromatic range of 20 notes from C4 to G5, and the notes are clearly labelled to aid learning and remove the daunting challenges posed by unmarked steel pans. Teachers and steel pan players are agreed that the highest 5 notes on a traditional lead pan are rarely used as they do not produce a clean sound. Reducing the range to 20 notes creates additional space to design, shape and position the notes for bell-clear tone and accurate tuning across the instrument. It also makes teaching and learning easier, as well as navigating the layout of the pan.

Steelpan in the classroom – making life easier for teachers!

Steel Pans are a 'low barrier to entry musical instrument' and have been used in music classrooms for over 50 years, with massive growth in the 21st century. They are one of the most effective tools to teach musical fundamentals to students of all ages and ability levels. Students are inspired to play these spirited and fascinating instruments, making teaching and learning all aspects of music a breeze.

Premium versatility for education

Acquiring pans has always been difficult and expensive, with lead times that can be extensive if not prohibitive. The C-20 pan is an ideal solution to expand your ensemble! If you already use Jumbie Jams in your school, then adding the C-20 is a simple and affordable way to progress the most talented students. The inspiration to move on to the bigger pan will drive students to master the Jumbie and potentially springboard a lifetime of steel pan playing!

Testimonial

“Our C-20s fit seamlessly into our existing steelband. These pans will get lots of use at my school from steelband to general music classes. The students love learning about the innovative process of making these instruments but of course they love playing them even more.”

Jordan Morrison, Music Education Director at W.O. Smith Music School in Nashville, TN
