The shime-daiko is a small drum of Japanese origin with natural skin drumheads on both sides. The skins are stretched on metal hoops and then over the edge of the body. This model features a bolt tension mechanism. Due to the taut heads, the shime-daiko produces a higher pitch than other models of taiko drum with a full, bright sound. The shime-daiko is played with a pair of sticks known as bachi and should be placed on a snare drum stand. Shime-daiko are used in a range of Japanese music ensembles and folk music traditions. The PP327 is supplied with a pair of bachi and its own carry case.
